Admissions and Appeals

We welcome all children to St Louis and enjoy celebrating the different backgrounds, experiences, and interests they have. From the moment your child arrives in the school, they can be sure of receiving a warm welcome and support from all the staff who work with them. Our staff share the primary aim of keeping all children safe and helping them achieve their potential during their time with us.

If you would like to learn more about us and come for a visit, please contact the school office on 01373 463728 or office@sl.thedcet.com

How to Apply

If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements included within our policy. All admission applications are coordinated through Somerset Council. If you wish to apply for a reception place for September or a place at any other time of the year, you can do so using the link below. Apply to start school for the first time (somerset.gov.uk)

Appeals

Firstly, if you wanted to secure a place for your child at our school and were not successful, we are very sorry. We know how hard and disappointing this is.

If you are considering appealing the decision, our Headteacher, Helen Biles-Wood, would like the opportunity to meet with you prior to you submitting your appeal. Please contact the school to arrange this. If following this meeting, you would like to appeal an admissions decision then please click on this link to give you the full details. Appeal a school admissions decision (somerset.gov.uk)

Timeline for Appeals

When making an appeal, we will ensure that we give a deadline of at least 20 schools days from the notification of the application being declined for a written appeal to be lodged. For applications made in the normal admissions round (submitted before the years deadline of 15th January), appeals must be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals.

For late applications (submitted before the first day of the school term of the admission year) appeals should be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

For applications for in year admissions, appeals should be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

With any appeal appellants will receive at least 10 days notice of their appeal hearing. Following the appeal, decision letters are sent within 5 school days of the appeal hearing outcome.

Admissions Policy Consultation 2026-27

The governing body of St Louis Catholic Primary School are consulting on their proposed admission arrangements for the 2026-27 school year. Proposed changes from the existing arrangements include:

  1. The introduction of new oversubscription criteria for:
    • Children who are a member of an Eastern Christian Church
      - Children of another Christian denomination
      - Children of another faith
      - Children of a member of School staff, within each category.
  2. The introduction of a new Supplementary Information Form (to help process applications from those applying under the religious and/or categories).
  3. A new In-Year application form (reflecting the above new criteria, for those applying for admission ‘In-year’ i.e. during the school year and not at the start of the Reception Year)
  4. The use of a random number generator to help rank applicants, rather than drawing lots.
  5. A revised definition of home address to include any address where the child spends any part of the school week.

Comments are not being sought on the rest of the arrangements.

You are invited to provide any comments you may wish for consideration on the proposed arrangements by 12.00pm Noon on 20 December 2024. Final arrangements will be determined by 28 February 2025 and will appear on the school/trust website by 15 March 2025.

Comments should be sent to Sarah Pinfied at The Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust spinfied@thedcet.com c/o St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Park Avenue, Bridgewater, Somerset, TA6 7EE
